Visiting the website and app

When you visit, the server processes technically necessary data (IP address, time, page requested, browser) to deliver the page and prevent abuse (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). It is not stored: there are no access logs, and the IP address is kept only briefly in memory, for example to slow down repeated failed attempts. Server provider: Contabo GmbH, Aschauer Straße 32a, 81549 München, data centre in the EU.

No ads, no tracking

The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising services and loads no content from other providers (not even fonts). The app only sets a login cookie.

Waiting list

If you sign up, we store your email address, optionally the size of your household, the time and the wording of your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). You first receive an email with a confirmation link (double opt-in); without confirmation we delete everything after 7 days. We delete confirmed entries once the launch email has been sent, at the latest after 24 months. We do not store IP addresses for this. You can withdraw at any time via the link in every email.

Account and household

For the app we store your name, your email address, your password (only as a hash) and your household’s entries (list, pantry, who entered what and when) to provide the service (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). The other members of your household see your name and your shared entries. If you delete your account, it’s gone; if you are the last to leave the household, we delete it with all entries.

Reminders

If you switch on reminders, we store your device’s push address and the time. The notification goes through the push service of your browser or operating system (Apple, Google or Mozilla) and contains the names of the items due soon. Switching off deletes the push address.

Barcodes

When you scan a barcode, our server asks Open Food Facts for the product – without any information about you. We keep the answer for everyone for up to 30 days.

Receipts

A receipt photo is read on your device; the full photo never leaves it. When you take over a receipt, the app anonymously sends – without account, household or login cookie – the goods section as text, a photo crop showing only that section (without metadata such as location) and, per line, the name and category you chose. Shop, date and time, till and payment data are not included. We store this with the day of receipt for at most 12 months to improve recognition for everyone; we do not store an IP address.

Sharing shelf life

If you enter a best-before date for a product with a barcode, the app anonymously sends – without account, household or login cookie – only the barcode and the number of days from purchase to that date. We store this with the day of receipt for at most 24 months. From 3 reports for a barcode, the app estimates with the middle value for all households. We do not store an IP address.

“Report a problem” in the app

If you report a problem in the app, we store your text, your name, screenshots if you add them and technical details (page, app version, device/browser, screen size) to fix the error (Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR). To fix it we create a task on our own development server – with text, screenshots and technical details, but without your name or account. Replies to it appear in the app.

Contact form

If you write to us via the contact form, we store your name, email address, topic and message in order to reply (Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR). We do not store IP addresses for this. We delete the request 6 months after it arrived at the latest.

Contact by email

If you write to us, we process your address and message only to reply (Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR) and delete them once that’s done or at your request.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. You can download all of your household’s data yourself at any time: in the app under Household → “Download all data”.
